Washington DC is a great city to visit!  There are so many famous building to see, things to do, and museums to visit.  Lots of history and lots of fun as well.  You will recognize lots of places from TV, news and the movies.

Take a group photo in front of the White House.  See the city both by day and by night, including the Washington Monument, Jefferson Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, Supreme Court, Pentagon, & congress.

See Ford’s Theater – where Lincoln was assassinated. Walk through Arlington National Cemetery – where yfu 009.jpgAmerica buries its heroes. Experience the Vietnam Memorial – celebrating bravery & mourning the loss of soldiers just a few years older than you.  A stop at the Holocaust Museum puts faces on a 20th century tragedy.

Enjoy Free time in  the Smithsonian Museum.  Choose to see the Air and Space Building, or the American History building, containing the flag that inspired the authoring of our national anthem, as well as an oval office recreation.

Philadelphia is the next stop. The city tour includes the museum steps made famous in the movie ROCKY,  the museum parkway, and a short stop at yfu eastern region 201.jpgIndependence Mall to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall

New York: Visit the Statue of Liberty.   See Ground Zero— soon to be Freedom Tower.  See Greenwich Village & Soho.  Shop and explore in Little Italy and Chinatown.

Ride to the top of the  Empire State Building for views over the entire city.  Shop on 5th Avenue, see Rockefeller Center, stroll through Central Park. Take a guided tour of NBC studios and see a real television studio.

Spend the evening in Times Square surrounded by all the lights.  See a Broadway  show.  New York is a true memory-maker and is always a student favorite. Don’t miss this chance to see New York with students from all over the world!

Bring

  • A Photo ID and Copy of your YFU health form in case of emergency. We would prefer that your photo ID not be your passport unless it is the only one you have.
  • Camera and film
  • Warm clothing, hat and gloves (it has snowed in April before); sturdy walking shoes (it would be wise to take an extra pair of shoes in case one pair gets wet).  It is also recommended that you take an umbrella and/or a sturdy raincoat.
  • Spending money you can keep in a safe place.  You will have to buy lunch everyday and you will be in the city known for its shopping!  Plan accordingly!
