  • Learn about Native American culture.
  • Have Guided tours through The USS Little Rock - a cruiser, USS Sullivan’s - destroyer and USS Crocker- a submarine (see buffalonavalpark.org).
  • Eat Dinner on the deck of a the USS Little Rock.
  • Special trip to see Niagara Falls at night.
  • See Niagara Falls from the Maid of the Mist boat tour.
  • Walk to the bottom of Niagara Falls & experience the power of the Bridal Vail Falls while on Cave of the Winds Walkway.
  • Stay with LOTS OF YFU STUDENTS in a few host family houses in Buffalo New York. Lots of Fun!!
  • All meals in Buffalo will be provided.
  • Dinner and dancing with music provided by a professional D.J. on Friday.
  • Receive a group photograph as well as other memorabilia.
  • Receive a Columbus Day Hoodie (provide size, S, M, L, XL with reservation).

       The Buffalo, NY  YFU volunteers have invited our international students from the Northeast Region of the U.S.(and teen-age host siblings if there is space) to visit Niagara Falls over Columbus week-end!   Buffalo sponsors are: David and Mary Ann Voorhees, 242 McKinley Parkway, Buffalo, NY 14220 (716-823-1953); voofam "at"buffnet.net  replacing the"at" with the appropriate symbol.

             

            Students will stay (in sleeping bags) with host families in the Buffalo area, where breakfast will be provided.  Buffalo volunteers have also arranged for Saturday and Sunday night dinners and DJ for dancing.  Cost includes your share of transportation,  food, and DJ cost plus the “Maid of the Mist” boat ride and “Cave of the Winds”.  Bring about $30 spending money to cover lunches and souvenirs.

            This special trip is the one which exchange students consider an unforgettable highlight of their year in the United States! 

    

Bring

  • Your YFU ID card and Copy of your YFU health form in case of emergency (Passport is optional as students will not be able to travel to the Canadian side due to visa restrictions).
  • Sleeping bag or bedroll, pillow and a small overnight bag with a bath towel (ID on everything, please!)
  • Snacks, water bottle, etc. for Saturday
  • Camera (zip-lock bag to protect it from moisture) and film
  • Warm jacket (we have had snow in Buffalo in October!); sturdy walking shoes
  • Small hostess gift representing your country or where you live in the US (also write a thank-you letter)
  • $30 spending money you can keep in a safe place

Host Parents and Volunteers:  Chaperones will have a bed or sleeper sofa. Host parents will be considered as chaperones if there are not enough YFU volunteers to chaperone, but host parent must sign up as a volunteer and complete a background check to be covered by liability insurance.

Chillicothe, OH.  Meet at the McDonald’s on 50 just west of 23 (1124 E. Main St.).  Either take 35 until it merges with St. Rt. 23S and exit at Main St., or bring St. Rt. 50 across.  St. Rt. 50 is Main St. in Chillicothe.

Parkersburg, WV.  Parkersburg, WV.  Meet at the McDonalds at 3131 Old Highway 50 (E. 7th St.)  in Parkersburg.  From I-77, take the US 50 exit toward 7th St. downtown (exit 176).  Turn right onto 7th St. 

The McDonald’s is right there

Clarksburg, WV.  Meet at the McDonald’s on St. Rt. 50 just east of I-79 (1021 W. Main St., Bridgeport, WV).

Bridgeville, PA  Meet at the McDonalds (3023 Washington Pike) at I-79 and St. Rt. 50 (exit 54)..  From I-79, go east onto St. Rt. 50 in Bridgeville.  Turn right at the corner by the BP gas station, then immediately left into McDonald’s.   It should pull into the drive past McDonalds and go to the lot behind the McDonald’s lot.  McDonalds phone number is 412-221-3759.

Findlay, OH.  Meet at the Cracker Barrel (1031 Interstate Ct.) at 75 and Rt. 224.  From I-75, go west on 224.  Turn right on Northridge Rd., then right on Interstate Ct. and into the Cracker Barrel.

Columbus, OH.   Meet at the Bob Evans on 161 by the Continent (960 E. Dublin Granville Rd.).  From I-71 north, exit at 161 west.  Turn right at the first light, then right again into the parking lot.  Meet at the back of the parking lot.

Medina, OH  Meet at  the Wendy’s at SR 18 (Exit # 218) and I-71.  From I-71, go west on St. Rt. 18.  This is a lunch stop and there are several places to choose from.  There is 45 minutes built in for lunch.

It is requested that we stop at the rest stop (there is only one) between the PA border and Buffalo.  This is to relieve bathroom pressure at Dave’s house.  Also, please call to tell Dave you are there so he can plan to meet the bus.

Take exit 55 (right after toll booth), which is the Ridge Rd., Lackawanna and West Seneca exit.  Take the next exit heading west on Ridge Rd. to Lackawanna.  The Hampton Inn is on the left (for the bus drivers).  At the stop sign, turn right onto Ridge Rd.  At the 2nd light (3/4 mile) turn right onto Abbott Rd.  Go through 3 traffic lights, then turn left onto Kimberly (there is a Wilson Farms store on the corner).  Take Kimberly to the end and turn right onto McKinley Parkway and immediately turn left onto Ridgewood.  Go ½ block and turn around in the large parking lot to head the correct way.  Dave’s house is on the corner.
